SERVICING: Servicing your manual transmission involves changing the gear oil at specified intervals, knowing how to check for the gear oil levels and keeping an eye out for fluid leaks. Virtually all manual transmissions employ a fill plug and level check on the side of the transmission. In order to inspect and/or fill the transmission, you'll need to remove this plug, check the level and if it's low, fill until oil starts to fall out. When the oil begins to fall out of the side, you'll know that the transmission is full. At periodic intervals you'll need to change the transmission fluid all together. Look for a drain plug in the bottom of the transmission. Open the drain plug, let all of the oil come out, replace the drain plug and fill in the fill hole, until oil starts to spill out. Replace the plug. Refer to your owner's manual on how often you should change your fluid and the type of fluid for your car. You may need a pump to replace the fluid. Manual transmission seal leaks occur at any of the connections on the transmission or where the transmission connects to the clutch and drive shaft. Have your mechanic replace any leaking seals.
